Astor Place Then and Now
We are working on a piece about the history of Astor Place, from the Cube (aka The Alamo) to the changing landscape of buildings and stores in the area. If you have photos of Astor Place is the past, please send them!

51 Astor Place Stirs both Excitement and Controversy
After a slow start, the new glass super-building at 51 Astor Place is now being completed at an astonishing pace. The only place I recall seeing buildings go up this fast was Dubai in 2008!
The latest step at 51 Astor Place has been the rapid addition of the shiny glass exterior. For more on the developments, checkout the excellent coverage here at http://ny.curbed.com/places/51-astor-place.
One thing I have been thinking about is how the new building will change the spacial sense of how it feels to stand in the center island of Astor Place, next to The Alamo cube which sits at the center of Astor Place. You will now be surrounded on all four sides by large, pretty corporate feeling structures....a big difference from just a decade ago....
